Ruto appoints Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi acting Interior Cabinet Secretary

At the same time, Mudavadi has declared Friday, November 1 a public holiday for the swearing-in of Kindiki.
President William Ruto has appointed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as the acting Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
The decision was formalised in a gazette notice dated October 31, 2024, citing Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution.

"That pursuant to Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, Hon. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, is assigned as the Acting Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and National Administration," reads the gazette notice.
His appointment follows the nomination of the former Interior CS, Kithure Kindiki, as Deputy President after the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Kindiki will be sworn in as the new deputy president on Friday, November 1, 2024.
In the interim, Mudavadi will oversee the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, ensuring continuity in its operations.
At the same time, Mudavadi has declared Friday, November 1 a public holiday for the swearing-in of Kindiki as the new Deputy President.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, and Sections 3 (b) and 12 (3) of the Assumption of Office of President Act, declares Friday, the 1st November, 2024, to be a public holiday, being the date of the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate,” reads the notice.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei has extended invitations to the heads of State Corporations, including Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers, to attend the event. According to Koskei, all invitees are expected to arrive at the KICC by 8:30 a.m. for the swearing-in ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
